Because I've had success with it in the past, I've decided I am going to do the Fat Smash Diet. (But since that website isn't terribly specific, you can find out more information about it here if you're curious.) Essentially, it is a 90-day diet that is broken down into 4 stages. The first stage, the detox, is 9 days of pure misery. This is what you're allowed to eat:
-Fruit in any quantity
-Veggies in any quantity except:
-No white potatoes
-No avocados
-Chickpeas
-Beans
-Tofu
-Lentils
-Brown rice, two cups of cooked rice per day
-Skim milk, two cups per day
-Water
-Oatmeal, one cup per day
-Herbs and spices
-Low fat yogurt, 6 oz., two times per day
-Egg whites, Four cups per day
-Herbal tea, two cups per day
-Low fat dressing, No more than three tablespoons per salad
-Low fat virgin olive oil, one or two teaspoons if grilling veggies
And that's it. You may notice there was no cheese or chocolate on that list, which make up 2/3 of my essential food groups (steak is the other one... wait, that's not on the list either!) As I said, 9 days of pure misery. But as the name infers, it's intended as a detox phase that, paired with 30 minutes of exercise a day, should jump start you on the path to a more healthy lifestyle. After the 9 days are up, you can add more food to your list, but we'll get there when we get there.
Ways I'm already planning to cheat? There are a few. You're supposed to weigh in on Day 1 and then stay away from the scale until Day 10. I can tell you right now, that is not happening. I will be weighing in every morning because I feel like it will help me stay motivated. I'm also planning a celebratory Day 10 that should coincide nicely with the ESPN Family Picnic on Sept. 2nd, since, as you may have also noticed, alcohol is notoriously absent from that list, and I am not passing up an opportunity for free beer and roller coasters.
Other than that I will follow this plan to the tee. If you feel like you could lose 10 pounds and want to try this with me, let me know! Always easier when you have other people supporting you (and suffering with you, but let's try to be optimistic). I've already coerced 2 other people to embark on this journey with me, and our plan is to start on Monday, August 23rd. So you've got some time to think about it :)
Holy CRAP! I don't know how you are going to do that. I like to eat! I just eat a lot less of the bad stuff and more of the good stuff. Good luck with that one.
ReplyDeleteOooh I think I'm going to try this..9 days sans chocolate, frozen yogurt, chicken/turkey, might be a little (lot) difficult for me though-- yikes! I'm nervous! Make sure you blog daily starting on Monday for extra motivation. :)
ReplyDeleteI knew I loved you- even reading what you say makes me laugh. I am on a goal of losing 10 pounds as well, as I am also 10 pounds heavier than last year. Except I kind of don't really care??!! I mean, I do care, but not enough to starve myself like this diet- are you crazy?!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I enjoy a lot of those foods in the list above but I am slightly confused...is the list you wrote the ONLY foods you are allowed to eat for 9 days? No turkey or chicken? No jello? Not even sugarfree jello? Hmmm.... I will support you either way thru it my friend! :)
Haha yes, those are the only foods you can eat for 9 days. But after that you can start adding lean meats and other goodies. As I said, it's the detox phase that's meant to cleanse you of all the nasties floating around in your body right now... you should join us! It's easier to do together :)
